Australian visa cost goes up, hike seen in various charges and fees

 

Australia increases visa fees for 2021-22

Australia’s federal government has hiked the fees for permanent as well as a temporary resident visa from July 1, 2021. Just before this happened, the citizenship application fee was hiked from $285 to $490.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal fee has increased from nearly $1,800 to $3,000. The AAT judges matters related to visas. Apparently, the rise in this component of Australian visa cost was because of a rise in the rejection of applications for visas.

Business Innovation and Investment (Significant Investor stream) visa has seen the highest fee increase: from $7,880 in 2020-21 to $8,925 in 2021-22.

A word about VAC (Visa Application Charge)

The VAC is a general taxation charge. This charge, which is part of the Australian visa cost is set by the Australian government corresponding to policy objectives.

VACs for most Business Innovation and Investment Program visas were also raised by 11.3% on July 1, 2021. This was in addition to the adjustment of the Consumer Price Index. The adjustment was consistent with the 2020-21 budget. For other categories, the fee hike has been nominal. Here are some examples:

·      Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme visa)

·      Subclass 189 (Skilled independent visa)

·      Subclass 489 (Skilled Regional (Provisional))

·      Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa)

·      Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated visa)

Fees increased from $4,045 to $4,115 for this financial year
·      Initial visa application charge

·      Subclass 143 (Contributory Parent visa)

Fees increased from $4,155 to $4,255 for this financial year

(The total cost is about $48,000)

Partner (onshore & offshore) visaFees increased to $135
