Economy reviving in 2021, plan to migrate to Canada

Image
June 2021 saw a rapid growth in job creation in Canada. This followed the waning of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Now, experts are looking forward to a phenomenal growth in employment that will happen at a gradual but confident pace. This is the trend predicted for the rest of 2021. Hence, it’s a great time to migrate to Canada. A senior economist with the Bank of Montreal, Robert Kavcic stated that there is an expectation for smoother job recovery all through the second half of 2021. The total employment is estimated to be down 1.8% from pre-COVID levels. The second quarter of 2021 was a roller-coaster ride for the Canadian economy. The period was full of lay-offs, shut-down of companies during lockdowns, etc. But lately, the country has re-opened. This has led to more people getting hired compared to those who have been laid off. So, choosing to migrate to Canada to work will be a good move. Performance of Canadian provinces Ontario had the steepest decline in employment. Th...

Federal immigration draw invites 512 Express Entry candidates

Image
An  Express Entry  draw was held on August 4, 2021, in Canada. It was held to invite 512 candidates who have already got provincial nominations through a previous PNP draw. IRCC set the minimum CRS score required at 760. The high minimum score was a result of 600 extra points that the provincially nominated candidates received along with their nomination. For this round of invitations, IRCC implemented a cut-off time to apply the tie-break rule. The tie-break rule is applied as an administrative requirement no matter whether it’s actually needed or not. The timestamp applied was March 5, 2021, at 22:38:31 UTC. Candidates with the minimum score were invited only in case they submitted their Express Entry profile before the date and time specified in the timestamp. The reason for PNP-only draws From the beginning of 2021, IRCC has been sticking to conducting Express Entry draws specific to PNP and CEC. By adopting this practice, IRCC resorted to admitting candidates who a...

How racism and alienation fueled British Indian writer Sunjeev Sahota to scale literary heights

Image
“I’ve got more interested in the form, the artistry, and wanting something new – not just in my writing, but also when I’m reading. I get very bored when I read novels that have nothing new in them. So, that’s probably what drives me about what I write next. I try to reach beyond what’s already illuminated, those darker kinds of places, through my writing.” That’s how  Sunjeev Sahota, a longlisted author for the 2021 Booker Prize,  describes the process of choosing stories for his books. In less than a decade, the Indian-origin  British novelist  has become a name to reckon with in the literary scene with just three books to his credit. For someone who started reading his first novel at the age of 18, and began writing one at 25, Sahota has impressed critics and book lovers with his poignant tales. His novellas are centered around the experiences of immigrants who struggle with a sense of belonging in their adopted homelands.  His books weave in his India...

Dr Aparna Hegde: The maternal health champion among Fortune’s 50 greatest global leaders of 2020

Image
As a medical resident in a Mumbai hospital,   Dr Aparna Hegde   had been witness to many pervasive systemic problems that often led to disastrous consequences. One incident remains fresh in her mind. It  was a long night in the Emergency ward when a 25-year-old woman was brought in with serious childbirth complications. The woman had been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and her baby was too large to be delivered normally, leading to the baby being stuck in the birth canal. Despite the team’s best efforts, they weren’t able to save the mother. “Her death will forever stay with me. Not only because she died a most horrible death, but also because it was preventable… She had gone for her first antenatal visit but she had not been counseled about the remaining visits, danger signs, and potential complications. If only she had been…” writes Dr Hegde on the Armman website.   It was incidents such as these that made the urogynecologi...
