Canada reports 553,500 job vacancies in the first quarter of 2021
In Canada, job vacancies as well as job vacancy rates are on the upswing.
As per the Job Vacancy and Wage Survey [JVWS], “There were 553,500 job vacancies in the first quarter of 2021, up by 40,700 (+7.9%) from the same quarter one year earlier and by 47,300 (+9.4%) compared with two years earlier.”
The Job Vacancy and Wage Survey [JVWS] provides comprehensive data on job vacancies and wages, per industrial sector and occupations as on National Occupational Classification [NOC] matrix for Canada. Details on job vacancies, along with the offered wage data, are released quarterly. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a suspension of data collection for the JVWS for the third and fourth quarters of 2020. The job vacancy rate in Canada increased 0.5% points to 3.3% in the first quarter of 2021. This is the highest rate since comparable data was made available in 2015.
